Yes, it’s your Food News Buffet for the fourth week in October, Year Two of This Lousy Plague.

Hot Luck Fest has announced dates for its return in 2022.

Meanwhile, this very weekend boasts the goodness of Field Guide Festival from Urban American Farmer and friends, and we’ve got more information on what the food-enhanced attractions are at that delightful event

Of course, there are a lot of Halloweenish fêtes being planned for this burgeoning burg of ours, but we’re especially enchanted by the sheer audacity (and dining potential) of Devil May Care’s Surrealist Ball, coming up next week …

We see that Texas Monthly has released this year’s Top 50 BBQ Joints list, and that Austin’s got three in the top 10: Interstellar BBQ (No. 2), LeRoy and Lewis (No. 5), and Franklin Barbecue (No. 7). Beyond that, Distant Relatives, la Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meats, and Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ also made the list – while J. Leonardi’s, Moreno Barbecue, Stiles Switch, and Whitfield’s weren’t included but did receive honorable mentions. Um. We trust that those Texas Monthly judges neglected to try the pork loin at Stiles Switch, right? Because, c’mon

Lift Collective has partnered with Vins de Bordeaux for their Strong Women of Bordeaux campaign, showcasing the collective talent of the women winemakers of the region, inviting Austinites to Aviary Wine & Kitchen (2110 S. Lamar) to taste 18 bottles from 12 different all-women producers and winemakers. The evening will raise funds for Lift’s entrepreneurial scholarships, which support budding talent in the wine industry. The pouring begins at 6pm, Wed., Oct. 27

The Wine & Food Foundation’s annual Rare & Fine Wine Auction is coming up on Nov. 6 at the JW Marriott, and as of press time they’re still looking for some volunteers to help with the event. Click on over to that website and get a piece – or, rather, a sip – of the action …

Mmmmm ... those Long Table dinners at Hotel Granduca's Visconti Ristorante are as delicious as they are elegant

Speaking of wine, you know that classic refreshment is the featured beverage at the Long Table dinners at Hotel Granduca’s Visconti Ristorante, right? That posh yet welcoming venue, nestled among trees just off the Capital of Texas Highway, is the setting for these extraordinary feasts – and tomorrow (Thu., Oct. 21) night’s “Crush Season” dinner features excellent Italian cuisine paired with the best from Napa Valley’s own Trinitas Cellars

So, what’s happening on East Anderson Lane? Something called Prep ATX: The largest commercial kitchen space in Texas, they say – with a variety of Austin's top food and beverage makers, including restaurants, bakers, caterers, consumer packaged goods, and food trucks. Tiny Pies. Chop Chop. Bearded Baking Company. SimpliThai. Taste of Home Dumplings. And, yes, more. And, if you’ve got some culinary business start-up plans yourself, Austinite? Reckon you should check the place out, too …

The once locally beloved Mangia Pizza, having been (putatively) rescued from Chapter 11 bankruptcy by an investment firm called CloudCap back in 2012, is now shuttered, gone for good and all. Ah, sic transit gloria ’zilla

But, on the plus side: P. Terry’s Burger Stand has reopened its Downtown location at 515 Congress. Such good news, yes, but now whatcha gonna do, Downtown dweller? Whatcha gonna do if you’re approximately equidistant from that P. Terry’s location and Fareground and Salt & Time? Sure an’ there’s even more noms available all around that particular skyscraper’d parcel of urbanity, and we’re all so oppressed by the tyranny of choice, oh woe, oh mis-er-y

And some things just keep getting better. Like, how Easy Tiger is hosting a weekend-long party spotlighting Meanwhile Brewing Co x Deschutes Brewery collaborations with a tenacious Tiger tap takeover (Fri.-Sun., Oct. 22-24.) This celebration of the brewer’s art features the release of three different beer collabs, at all three Easy Tiger locations, with the brewers right there – and we’re thinking this weekend might permanently raise the bar for craft innovation, even in this suds-flooded town

The Roosevelt Room – now on wheels!

We have, in the past, gladly shouted out that Cantaloupe Island cocktail delivery service. Because they’re hella impressive and in spirited cahoots with the folks at The Austin Shaker (about whom we can never say enough good things) and the business’s founder, Richard Thomas, is a native Texan. So we’re referring back to them now, but only before noting: Holy shit! Justin Lavenue and Dennis Gobis of the Roosevelt Room have launched their own cocktail-bar-on-wheels! After six years of anticipation, the much-buzzed-about cocktail truck is ready to roll, with RoadHaus Mobile Cocktails bringing the world-class service and award-winning caliber of the Roosevelt Room to events of any size. Hell, they’ve even created a few impressive new concoctions specifically for RoadHaus. For instance: Matcha Business, with Citadelle Dry Gin, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, mint, matcha powder, absinthe, wildflower honey syrup, and lime. Bottoms up, my great good friends …

And, ah, you did see your current reporter’s latest round-up of premium tipples, right?

Finally, in a non-booze-centric but possibly other than 100% sober vein, we pass along the news that RepresentUs is launching Gerry's Partisan Pizza, a pizza store that only serves residents of Texas's new, heavily gerrymandered 37th House district, to illustrate how partisan gerrymandering works. “This delicious activation comes during a once-in-a-decade redistricting cycle,” the RepresentUs email continues, “where corrupt politicians are preparing to slice their districts to their political benefit, regardless of what voters want. This three-day pizza event aims to prevent 188 million taxpayers from being stuck with unaccountable representatives for the next ten years.” Note: This arch and tasty spectacle will be happening at The Backspace (507 San Jacinto) on Fri.-Sun., Oct. 22-24, 5-9pm

Now eat as well as you can, citizen; and tip like it’s going out of style; and watch out for those lingering ’ronas
